Garden Joy of the Week

My garden joy this week might be this Filipendula rubra with its one and only flower.

I have had these plants for a while, but last summer I moved them to a better place

and planted them in two buckets that I digged into soil. The reason is that this plant runs.

Now I have been able to admire its soft pink bloom. One flower can be a treasure ❤︎

preeria-angervon kukka. Kasvit ovat olleet minulla jo muutaman vuoden,

mutta viime kesänä istutin ne kahteen maahan kaivettuun ämpäriin.

Syynä se että tämä juoksee. Yksi ainoa kukka voi olla aarre ❤︎

Pure Magic in Purple

Clematis Negritjanka is my oldest and most beautiful clematis. It blooms abundantly year after year while other varieties make no show. Negritjanka is a cross between C. 'Gypsy Queen' and C. viticella. It is a robust, fast-growing clematis with large, open flowers. Its flowers are dark as night. The contrasting yellow-white anthers add its charm. Negritjanka belongs to pruning group 3 - cut down every spring; raised by M I Orlov in 1964, Kiev, Ukraine.

The Phlox paniculata in the photos is an old traditional phlox that has survived in old Finnish gardens. This treasure is high and has a lilac color - that's why it is called Lilac Phlox.

Negritjanka on upeimmin kukkiva kärhöni, vanhin ja yhtä ihana vuodesta toiseen ❤︎ Lukuisia kärhöjä olen menettänyt, mutta Negritjanka ilahduttaa joka kesä. Yöntummalla taustalla keltaiset heteet suorastaan loistavat. Tämän kärhön on jalostanut ukrainalainen M. I. Orlov 1964. Leikataan alas vuosittain.

Syreenileimun olen saanut taimivaihdossa. Tämä aarre on korkea ja pienikukkainen. Luulen ettei tätä ihanaa maatiaiskasvia löydy taimistoilta.

I have three colours of waterlilies in my small garden pond: white, pink & yellow.
They don't exactly thrive there but bloom with a few flowers.
This is pure white, although looks a bit yellow in the photos.

Pienessä puutarhalammikossani kasvaa valkoinen, vaaleanpunainen ja keltainen lumme.
Ne eivät suinkaan kukoista, vaan sinnittelevät ja kukkivat muutamalla kukalla.
Tämä on puhtaan valkoinen, vaikkakin näyttää kellertävältä kuvissa.

My garden looks awful. For over a month I have not been able to care for the plantings.

The weeds thrive and my husband knows nothing about gardening.

He tries to water in this draught and heat, but everything fades. So sad.

Puutarhassa näyttää aivan kamalalta, kun en ole kuukauteen voinut tehdä mitään.

Rikkaruohot mellastavat eikä isännästä ole puutarhurin hommiin.

Kyllä hän kastella yrittää tässä kuumuudessa, mutta surkein tuloksin.

Kaikki tuntuu kuihtuvan silmissä. Niin surullista.

On ollut tuskaisan kuumaa ja kuivaa. Tänä aamuna heräsin leppeään sateeseen. Sääennusteen mukaan sataa koko päivän ja ukkostaa myös. Huomenna luvassa kaatosadetta ja runsasta salamointia. Sade on tervetullutta, ukkonen ei niinkään. Näissä merkeissä alkaa minun viikonloppuni, entä sinun? Viikonlopun kimpussani rohtosuopayrttiä ja harmaamalvikkia - hyvää viinkonloppua.

It has been very hot by the Finnish standards and very dry. over 30 C. This morning I was wakened up by soft refreshening rain that is forecast to continue the whole day. The forecast says that tomorrow we shall get heavy rainfall & heavy thunderstorm. Rain is good, thunder not so. I made a summer bouquet in soft pastels: Saponaria officinalis & Lavatera thuringiaca. Wishing you a nice weekend.

Deep Blue but no Sadness in Sight!

Klematis Petit Faucon kuuluu Integrifolia-ryhmään. Sen korkeus on 1 - 1.50 m eikä se kiipeile itse. Kukkii heinäkuussa syvän violetinsinisin kukin. Leikataan vuosittain alas, kukat muodostuvat siis saman vuoden versoihin. Jalostaja Raymond Evison, UK, 1990-luvun lopulla.

The clematis Petit Faucon belongs to the Integrifolia Group. It is a small upright non-clinging climber to 1 - 1.50 m tall. Single flowers are violet-blue with four narrow, slightly twisted sepals, purple-blue filaments and yellow anthers. In Finland it blooms in July on the current year's growth. Hard prune, pruning group 3. Raised by Raymond Evison, UK, in the late 1990's.

Charming Louise Odier

Bourbonruusu 'Louise Odier' on ruusuistani kaunein ja arin. Pensaana se ei ole näyttävä, koska palelluttaa versonsa melkein joka talvi. Mutta tämän aran ja herkän kaunottaren kukka lunastaa kaikki lupaukset - se on tiheästi kerrannainen & huumaavasti tuoksuva! 'Louise Odier' kukkii kesäkuulta alkaen ja nuppuja muodostuu sekä edellisen vuoden että saman vuoden versoihin. Kasvukorkeus 1-1,5 m, kasvuvyöhykkeet I-II.

The Bourbon rose 'Louise Odier' is a delicate beauty in the Finnish climate. It freezes almost every year but still delights me with richly fragrant flowers of a lovely bright pink, shaded with lilac. Cupped at first, they open flatter and neatly rounded, with each petal precisely in place. Margottin, 1851. Makes a good cut flower.

Here she grows in the middle of other rose shrubs & Philadelphus coronarius.

The clematis 'Little Nell' is growing there too but not yet in bloom.
Not much of a show stopper but the single flowers are divine ❤︎

Potpourri out of Rose Petals

Ruusupensaat kukkivat parhaillaan runsaasti. Ajattelin säilöä ruusuntuoksua talven iloksi potpourrina. Aiemmin olen tehnyt kuivatuista terälehdistä myös kransseja - se sujuu hyvin liimaamalla ja kultaisella tai hopeisella spiraalilangalla.

Rose shrubs are blooming abundantly right now. You can preserve their scent for winter as potpourri.

Out of dried petals you can also make beautiful wreaths by glueing.
