Miracles do happen - one of them is my Louise Odier! 

Fantastic blooming Bourbon rose Louise Odier freezes all its branches every winter but not now! It has never looked as good as now - even some buds can be seen this early. The flowers are from 2017 and congratulate all new students and those who have finished their studies!

Ihmeitä tapahtuu! 

Bourbonruusu Louise Odier palelluttaa liki kaikki versonsa joka talvi, vaan eipä nyt! Se ei ole ikinä näyttänyt näin hyvältä - nuppujakin näkyvissä! Kukkakuvat viime kesältä onnittelevat uusia ylioppilaita ja muita valmistuneita!

Miraculous May:

According to the figures of the Finnish Meteorological Institute May was the warmest ever since statistics are available - and that is so far as the early 1900's! There were altogether 14 hot days when the temperature is over 25 C - and that is an all time record compared to the normal 3 hot days. Draught is official too: 4 weeks without rain.

Toukokuu oli sääihme:

Ilmatieteen laitoksen tilastojen mukaan toukokuu oli Suomen mittaushistorian lämpimin. Vertailukelpoinen aineisto alkaa 1900-luvun alusta. Hellepäiviä, jolloin päivän ylin lämpötila on yli 25 astetta, oli toukokuussa enemmän kuin koskaan mittaushistorian aikana, yhteensä 14. Tyypillisesti hellepäiviä on toukokuussa vain kolme. Kuivuus on virallista myös: 4 viikkoon ei ole satanut.

So it is no wonder 

that the whole country has gone crazy about the heat - but the gardeners of course have been complaining and praying for rain - me too. Because of the draught the blooming goes too quickly and some flowers are smaller than usual.

Ei siis ihme

että koko maa on ollut onnesta sekaisin - kotipuutarhurit tietysti valittaneet  - minäkin - ja rukoilleet sadetta :) Kuivuuden takia monen kasvin kukat ovat normaalia pienempiä ja kuihtuvatkin nopeasti.

Miracles by paint & diligence  / DIY:

My blog friend Kirsti asked wether we have renovated some old stuff. That inspired me to spray with black two faded plant towers and add old plastic hanging baskets. I'm sure the towers shall look nice when plants grow. Then I went to my storage and found white pebbles that had been forgotten there for many years. Now some of my stone areas look really nice - thank you Kirsti for the inspiration ❤︎

Maalilla ja ahkeruudella ihmeitä / DIY:

Blogiystäväni Kirsti kyseli ollaanko me uudistettu vanhaa. Minä innostuin spreijaamaan mustalla kaksi kulahtanutta kasvitukea, lisäsin vielä muoviset vanhat amppelit. Uskon että kivalta näyttää, kunhan kasvit tuosta kasvavat. Sitten löysin valkoisia pyöreitä kiviä, jotka olivat unohtuneet varastoon vuosikausiksi. Toin esille ja koristelin muutamaa mukulakivialuetta. Kiitos Kirsti inspiraatiosta ❤︎

Pterocarya rhoifolia - Japaninsiipipähkinä

The Garden Princess  right now is undoubtedly our old apple tree. It looks fabulous and is full of white blooms - I could admire it forever! There are apple blossom photos in two previous posts - look here & here. Today mainly some other white impressions. Also my modest cherry & plum trees are blooming, lilacs burst these days in full bloom - and so does my long white blooming Spiraea chamaedryfolia hedge. So I have here a beautiful white blooming Hanami ❤︎

Juuri nyt ehdoton puutarhan prinsessa on valkoisenaan kukkiva vanha omenapuu. 

Sitä voisin ihailla iät ajat! Omenankukkakuvia täällä ja täällä. 
Laihat kirsikka- ja luumupuuni kukassa myös, pihasyreenit ihan kohta täydessä loistossaan, 
samoin pitkän pitkä idänvirpiangervoaidanne. 

Meillä vietetään siis hurmaavaa valkoisena kukkivaa Hanamia ❤︎

Kukkailottelua terassilla

Meidän ison 25 m2 puuterassin lattia jäi viime kesänä käsittelemättä ja sen se oli näköinenkin: aivan kaamea. Viime kesänähän ei säitä terassi-ilotteluihin juuri ollutkaan, mutta surkeassa kunnossa oleva terassi oli luotaantyöntävä. Alkavan kesän aurinkoisten säitten toivossa on hyvä elää - terassi kohentui - viisi päivää touhuun meni.

Me and my husband have been painting & renovating our 25 m2 wooden terrace. 

A lot of work has been done! A few plantings decorate also the tidy space. 

Today is a bit cooler, but I'm confident that soon we are having hot weather again!

Mostly we use the terrace for eating, that's why a big dining table.

From this angle the terrace looks a bit bare, but my 'Amusement Corner'

at the back was an obstacle for photographing :)

Käytämme terassia pääosin ruokailuun, siksi siellä on iso ruokapöytä. Lisäksi tulee pari rennompaan istumiseen sopivaa tuolia, jahka isäntä ehtii ne maalata. Olimme käsitelleet terassin paksut lankut aiemmin peittävällä puunsuojalla. Nyt valitsimme terasseihin sopivan harmaanruskean maalin. Katsotaan kuinka tämä nyt kestää. Ainakin uutena sävy näyttää hyvältä.

I'm very happy with the grey-brown tone. Also I found a fitting table cloth...

Isäntä maalasi myös vanhan ruokapöydän samalla sävyllä. Vielä hänellä on projektina maalata kaksi vanhaa valkoista tuolia. Sopivan sävyinen ja mittainen kankaanpala löytyi komeron kätköistä.... Grilli terassin toisessa päässä pienen lasipöydän tuntumassa on uusi (ei kuvaa), kaikki muu on vanhaa.

My first terrace bouquet was made of Brunnera macrophylla, Lunaria annua 

and Spiraea chamaedryfolia.

Kesän ensimmäisessä terassikimpussa on rotkolemmikkiä, kesäkuuruohioa ja idänvirpiangervoa. Meillä on terassilla kaiteet, portti ja kärhösäleiköt - sekä kahdet portaat. Vanhan talomme sokkeli oli sen verran korkea, että muuta ratkaisua emme keksineet 16 vuotta sitten. Ovea tällä seinällä ei ollut, teimme sen kapean ikkunan paikalle. Kaide tieysti katkaisee hiukan yhteyttä puutarhaan, mutta se antaa huoneen tuntua ja piti koiravuosina koirat terassilla. Ja toki heinäkuusta lähtien kukkivat kärhöt näyttävät ihanilta.

There is a white wooden fence with a gate around the terrace, 

added with trellis for clematis. The fence adds a room feeling and kept our dogs inside.

Of course it cuts a bit connection to the garden, but the basement of this old

wooden house - built in the mid 50s - was very high and we did not find 

another solution but having two staircases as well (not in photos).

Maitotonkassa on tällä hetkellä diabolon oksia 

ja korkeassa ruukussa taivaansinistä petuniaa.

I like very much this creamy petunia with purple stripes.

Lisäksi tein tuijan ympärille istutuksen isoon ruukkuun. Istutukset eivät ole juuri tehtyinä vielä rehevimmillään. Kovasti ihastuin tähän kerman väriseen petuniaan, jossa on violetit raidat. Tätä petuniaa kasvaa yhdessä amppelissa myös. Kesävihreät heinät näyttävät livenä aika kivoilta. Limen värinen suikeroalpi rönsyilee aikanaan lattiaa kohti. Portaitten ruukuissa kasvaa sinisävyisiä orvokkeja, mutta ne ovat vielä pieniä - siksi ei kuvaa.

Amusement Corner & Tools

The Makrotex Challenge asks for TOOLS this week.

Here a selection of painting tools. We are brushing our wooden terrace with coloured wood protection.

I'm very content with the newly bought grey-brown color.
But shall present the end result to you later. The work is underway.

This is not presenting tools but my husband's sexy bottom :)

Dressed in twenty years old jeans!

When he does something, all the stuff lie around - and I have cropped a lot!

My tools lie here (the right photo). I call this area my FUN / AMUSEMENT CORNER 

- in Finnish PUUHAMAA - did not find a brilliant translation.

Puuhamaa is an amusement park mainly for children, situated in the Southern Finland.

Every gardener must have his or her ugly Amusement Corner

where all the tools are stored out of sight!

Garden Glimpses - Kurkistuksia

The big apple tree has not yet blooms or leaves.

The weather continues to be sunny & gorgeous, green increases every minute. 

I took some photos this morning where you can see that the shrubs are not yet having full leaves.
Maybe I'll take later in the summer some photos from the same angle and you'll see a true jungle :)

I donated half of my Omphaloides verna to the daughter - still they bloom so beautifully.

There are Corylus avellana and Syringa vulgaris growing at the background. 

Later in the summer the neighbour's house doesn't show at all.

There are three big bushes of Piladelphus coronarius at the background,
and Rosa rugosa 'Snow pavement' in the front.

I have an area where rock is bare and I use the spot to store cut branches.

We have a division of labour: I cut and hubby takes care of disposing them.

There was a gigantic heap from last summer and it is truly a pleasure to see the spot tidy!

Here is a long hedge of Spiraea chamaedryfolia that shall soon bloom in white.

I bought this beautiful wind spinner and it shall go to the terrace when all oiling is done.

We have things a bit upside-down for all the terrace furniture lies on the grass. 

Hubby is also painting window sashes - a lot of work. That is the case with an old wooden house!
