BRIGHT JOYS OF SUMMER - BOUQUETS

Everybody knows Sissinghurst Castle Garden (photos!) and it's white garden where

even white Chamaenerion angustifolium are allowed to grow.

I don't know how they manage there, but in my garden this plant runs & runs.

Therefore here no striking growing areas, a few plants here and there.
I should have limited the growing area to keep all the running roots there - not done.

Kaikki tietävät Vita Sackville-Westin luoman upean Sissinghurstin puutarhan Kentissä. 

Valkoisessa puutarhassa jopa valkoiset maitohorsmat ovat saaneet luvan kasvaa.

En tiedä miten siellä menetellään, mutta minulla horsma juoksee ja juoksee -

ei muodosta mitään nättejä ryhmiä, vaan siellä täällä kukkii jokunen.

Kasvualusta olisi pitänyt rajata - eipä tullut tehtyä.

My bouquet consists of  Chamaenerion angustifolium & Campanula latifolia in white;

Campanula trachelium in blue, Stachys micrantha &
purple Lychnis coronaria, also a bit of Aruncus dioicus.

Kimpussani on maitohorsmaa, valkoista ukonkelloa, sinistä varsankelloa,
jalopähkämöä, harmaakäenkukkaa ja töyhtöangervoa.

I did not count the boxes but they were many.

Cotton Candy - Valkoista hattaraa

Aruncus dioicus is no rarity, but a showy & modest perennial plant that selfsows eagerly.

I think I got the mother plant in a plant exchange maybe 10 years ago.

By now I have donated tens of its babies and have many in my own garden too.

Its roots get really big & quick, so it needs to be divided often.

If left undivided, maybe an excavator is needed :)

I love the colour of its young leaves in the spring and the blooms fit so well to bouquets.

Töyhtöangervo ei ole mikään harvinaisuus, mutta hyvä, näyttävä ja vaatimaton.

Sain töyhtöangervojeni äidin kasvivaihdossa kymmenisen vuotta sitten, ja

tähän mennessä se on ilahduttanut minua kymmenillä siementaimilla, joita on jaeltu ympäriinsä.

Nopeasti suureksi kasvavaa kasvia on syytä jakaa usein - muuten tarvitaan kaivinkonetta!

Lehdistö on keväällä hurmaavan heleän vihreä ja kukat sopivat hyvin kimppuihin.

Miehen silmin - Through Dear Hubby's Eyes

Nilkkavammani vuoksi liikkumiseni on äärimmäisen rajoittunutta, niinpä delegoin puutarhan kuvaamista miehelle. Helpommin sanottu kuin tehty, sillä hän tuntee suurin piirtein pylväshaavan ja voikukan. Koko ajan herra kysyy, mitä kuvataan ja minä ohjeistan. Hän näkee aivan eri tavoin kuin minä ja näyttää olevan kiinnostunut enemmän pörriäisistä kuin kukista :)

Kultakuoriainen - Cetonia aurata

Because of the foot injury and cast my moving is extremely restricted. So I delegated some photographing to dear hubby. Easier said than done, because he is not a garden person at all and keeps asking what to photograph and how - and I try to be patient and explain. The funniest thing is that he sees at least the plants in a quite different way than I and seems to be more interested in bugs than flowers :)

No, näillä mennään. Kaikenlaista kukkii nyt, mutta erityisesti iloitsen näistä kurjenpolvista, jotka eivät ole koskaan kukkineet näin runsaasti. Niitä löytyy useampi puska sieltä täältä, nimestä en ole täysin varma. Sitten kukassa on myös perhoangervo - Gillenia trifoliata, joka on ihanan keveä perhospilvi kukkineen - joskin tosi haasteellinen kuvattava.

Well, this is what I have got and have to rely on his help. Many plants are blooming now but these deep purple blue geraniums like never before! I have several plants in my mixed beds. And this Gillenia trifoliata is really like an airy grouping of tiny butterflies as its Finnish name suggests. So pretty but extremely challenging to photograph.

This week I'll share with you my treasure - Meconopsis betonicifolia - Sinivaleunikko.
I got the plant as a present from  photographer Teija Tuisku who photographed
my garden for a Finnish garden magazine 8-10 years ago.
The plant survives but does not spread. It was replanted once but no help as to spreading.

I have photographed this heavenly blue meconopsis for many posts - look here the previous ones.

Charming Hurdal Rose

This week Hurdalrose - Norwegian rose Hurdal has delighted me with its abundant blooming. 

It is an Alba hybrid, very vigorous & high, up till 3-4 m. Once-blooming spring or summer. 

Almost thornless & mild fragrance. Dag Lyngar from Norway reports:

'Hurdalsrosen is perhaps the biggest alba in the World - in my garden 14 feet high = over 4 m. 

It's believed that this rose came from the Giessen area in the south of Germany. 

But this rose doesn't any longer exist there. In Norway it is one of our most common roses. 

Hurdalen is a nice valley in Norway and the rose was brought to Norway about 150 years ago 

with a young seaman who fell in love with the young daughter of the priest in the valley Hurdalen.
The name of this rose is now in the whole world called 'Hurdalsrosen'!'

Norjanruusu Hurdal on ilahduttanut tällä viikolla kauniilla kukinnallaan. 

Se on hyvin voimakaskasvuinen, jopa 3-4 m. Lehdet ovat harmahtavanvihreitä ja himmeäpintaisia.
Pinkit kukat ovat keskikokoisia, puolikerrottuja ja miedosti tuoksuvia. 

Hurdal kukkii noin kuukauden keskikesällä. Tekee runsaasti kiulukoita. Vähäpiikkinen.

Romantic weekend! - Romanttista viikonloppua!

Garden Week Mostly in Purple

This week has been characterized by strong wind and chilly weather.

After the hot & sunny May we are back to normal :)

The DRAUGHT is severe and many plants suffer despite of watering.

Rhododendron Catawbiense  'Roseum Elegans' or 'Grandiflorum'

I have only two rhododendrons and they are really sad looking in this draught.

Some blooms anyhow, this puple is Catawbiense 'Roseum Elegans' or 'Grandiflorum'.

The shrub is big and old, I do hope it survives.

Cornus alba 'Gouchhaultii' - Keltakirjokanukka

I have blue & dark purple pansies in five containers together with lime mummularia...

Somehow alliums are far less and smaller than last year, and also many aquilegias seem to have disappeared.

Plantago media is a fun plant that I like very much. It self sows eagerly in odd places...
